Production Center of Anchovies and Salted Fish That Are Full of Garbage
Pasaran Island is a center for the production of anchovies and salted fish in Lampung Province, covering an area of 13 hectares. Inhabited by more than 1,500 people or 354 households, this island has the potential to be
developed into a city tourism area through sustainable coastal area management.
However, the waste generation on Pasaran Island reaches around 149,000 kg per year, of which 64% are plastic residue. Besides being located at the estuary of three rivers from the city of Bandar Lampung, the limited access
experienced by the community in understanding the importance of waste reduction and management, as well as the lack of access to waste collection and recycling, are causes of this problem. As a result, the waste on Pasaran Island
is not properly managed, polluting the waters around the island and disrupting the daily lives of the community, primarily fishermen.
