Difficulties Towards Empowered and Sustainable Villages
Golo Mori Village, located 25 kilometers from the Labuan Bajo super-priority tourist destination, has been proposed as a Special Economic Zone (SEZ). With the growth of tourism, Golo Mori Village has the potential to enhance its economy as a support village. However, this growth could be a challenge to the village community if not associated with awareness of a waste-free environment and the development of sustainable agriculture.
Up to this point, Labuan Bajo and its surrounding areas are still facing difficulties related to waste, where waste goes directly to the landfill without optimal treatment. On the other hand, the majority of the local community has not optimized agriculture, despite it being the main livelihood. Farmers still use pesticides instead of compost fertilizers obtained from organic waste, and they still rely on rain-fed irrigation.
