A Rising Tourism Hub with Untapped Opportunities

Central Lombok, famed for its pristine white-sand beaches and the Mandalika MotoGP circuit, draws both domestic and international tourists. Even more, after its designation as a Super Priority National Tourism Strategic Zone (KSPN) in 2019, the Mandalika Special Economic Zone (SEZ) has emerged as a powerful driver of local economic development–bolstering local employment in tourism and enhancing waste management practices.
Projections indicate the Mandalika SEZ will require tens of thousands of workers by 2025 to support its expanding tourism sector, including green tourism, creating a major opportunity for local communities. Additionally, growing tourism also presents an opportunity to develop more effective waste management solutions, not only to ensure the long-term sustainability of the tourism industry but also to bring economic benefits to its communities.

By 2025, the Mandalika SEZ is projected to employ 58,700 workers
to support various tourism needs, including green tourism.
Implemented Solution

Establishing a circular, economy-based green tourism ecosystem in Central Lombok by working together with local communities in 10 supporting villages around the Mandalika SEZ area, particularly artisan groups, Micro, Small Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), and young workers.
This initiative aims to empower local communities through waste management, training & workshops, and improved market access. This enables them to actively participate in driving the tourism industry's economic growth alongside Mandalika SEZ's development–moving beyond informal labor opportunities.
In the long term, Lombok Eco-Kriya's comprehensive initiatives aim to become Lombok Island's first green tourism ecosystem.
